Greed (cupiditia' avaritia)

Divine virtue:Love of others
Punishment: Put in pots of boiling oil
Symbol: Frog
Demon: Mammon
Colour: Yellow

Greedy to be with you and without.

to lap up your praise. and revel in it.

to feel pain. writhe. appreciate it.

to hold you. and be held.

my vanity is moulded as you snuggle against my ears.

i greedily push forward. a trifle closer. a baited breath longer.

greedy to hear my laughter echoed in your words.

to tease. and appease.

to stiffle. to repel. to restrain. to refrain.

to let loose. to wander. to beg you to beg me.

to clutch. hold. leave. and wither without.

to have my thoughts splayed spread-eagled.

wide-eyed.wonderstruck.at thinking of anything.

thinking of you.

i greedily amass the wealth of a look.

a glance. twisted lips. eyes. a you.

greed. its my vice. its my virtue.

i am lost. with it. without it.

Do you think greed is a vice? Even if it is fed on you? I wonder. I really wonder.

  3. a very relevant question that u have posed... greed a virtue or a vice? may be it depends on what u r greedy for...money, praise,attention...or may be just a bit of love... but then isn't a too much of anything bad? wanting more eternally? craving more of wat u already have and wat u have not? doesn't that really make greed a vice? doesn't greed take u away from being satisfied? and isn't satisfaction an end which every human being is actually greedy for? questions and more question...a vicious circle of them..
quite a case of the hen and the egg actually.. he he

  11. Cha..interesting take. Niv's thoughts echo mine, to an extent...

Is the journey more enjoyable than the destin(y)ation? debatable, huh?

Is the feeling of greed better than of being 'satiated? arguable, I presume..

And if it's so basic, wonder why Maslow never stacked it up on his hierarchy...

Gekko's classic speech to Teldar Paper's shareholders when taking over it (Wall Street, 1987, I think) sums it up for me....

"The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that: Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right; greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge — has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed, you mark my words — will save not only Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Long story short...greed helps be Number One...pure greed is virtue ;)

Caveat: When speeding on this highway, don't runover the folks on the sidewalk...you never know when you need to turnaround...:)
